What a wagering requirement actually is
A wagering requirement is the multiplier between the bonus amount and the total bets you must place before the winnings from it become withdrawable. A $200 bonus with a requirement of 30x means the casino wants you to place $6,000 in bets before those winnings can be withdrawn. Your bets may win or lose along the way, but you have to reach that total in the games the casino's contribution table approves.

Now price in the turnover. A slot that returns 96% keeps 4% of everything that passes through it, so $6,000 of required turnover will cost you about $240. That is more than the $200 bonus it unlocks. Use the same calculation to understand the 40x tier. Tonplay's $150 bonus at 40x requires $6,000 of turnover within 24 hours to meet the terms, an expected cost near $240 for $150 of bonus, on a deadline. The contract is finishable and honest, and the numbers suggest most players should decline the offer.
It also explains why casinos hand out wagering so freely. The requirement ensures the house receives a certain volume of play before any bonus money departs, and the expected cost of that play is usually greater than the bonus itself. From the cashier's side of the counter, a welcome package is a purchase of your turnover at a modest discount. That is useful to recognise, because it makes the good offers, the ones priced below their expected cost, stand out immediately.

Contribution tables: where wagering silently fails
The multiplier assumes that your bets will count. The contribution table decides whether they do, and it is the least-read page in any rulebook. Slots almost always contribute 100% of the wager.
